Dental Surgery - Why Maintain Good Dental Hygiene
Maintaining a good dental hygiene can help improve his or her teeth’s condition throughout his or her life. There are times though that people tend to overlook such improvement and think that if they brush their teeth alone twice a day, that encompasses what good dental hygiene is all about. The problem with this kind of complacent mindset, people tend to get comfortable with this routine without thinking of tuning up or taking to another notch.
The Truth is brushing alone is not enough to protect your teeth from those pesky oral bacteria that have plagued the oral world with ugly dental caries or tooth decays and halitosis or bad breath. What is even worse is that some people actually think it is okay to skip brushing their teeth at night because they’re too tired from work or too drunk from a party. It is during night time that bacteria built up can happen and will produce considerable amounts of acids as by products from the sugary food debris these bacteria feast upon. That is why it is highly recommended to brush your teeth before bed time.
Now, toothbrush is the most basic way of cleaning your teeth but to add some additional backup or “artillery” support through gargling mouth wash, flossing, and regular visits to the dentist can help secure more healthy teeth along the way. It is a combination of all these dental cleaning routine that can keep your teeth truly safe from dental caries, halitosis, gingivitis, periodontal disease and scores of other dental health problems that might wreak havoc to your overall health. You don’t want dental-surgery unless needed but if it can be avoided then remind yourself to clean your teeth and mouth regularly.
Here are simple reminders and the reason why it is important to add these dental health tips to your existing tooth brushing routine.
1. Always floss your teeth at least once a day.
Flossing your teeth can be very helpful in taking out decaying food debris and plaque between teeth where a tooth brush bristles cannot simply reach. You can do these after meals if you think some pieces of meat are stuck between your teeth. The decaying food debris between your teeth can also cause demineralization and dental caries through the sides of your teeth. Plaque can also cause gum irritation which can allow gums to bleed easily.
2. Use mouthwash or mouth rinse to kill bacterial plaque.
Mouthwash or mouth rinse can be an additional enhancement to your existing oral hygiene but it does not replace the use of regular tooth brushing and flossing. Mouth wash can also help remove mucus or remaining food particles deeper down your throat where it is hard for your tooth brush to reach. Some companies actually claim that their mouthwash can kill oral bacteria that can cause cavities, halitosis and gingivitis. There are some mouthwash that contains alcohol but nonalcoholic mouthwash is recommended for those who suffer chronic bad breath because alcohol dries the mouth which can increase halitosis.
3. Dental Cleaning every once a year can be very helpful.
Having dental check-ups and dental cleaning can be very helpful in maintaining your dental health. There are certain plaque or tartar build-ups due to continual accumulation of minerals or calculus deposits which only a dentist can remove. Annual dental checkups can help your dentist assess the health condition of your teeth if there are problems that may need tooth extraction or dental-surgery. As long as you practice good dental hygiene and annual visits to the dentist, you will have a well taken care health teeth.
